The
place name Castleknock is derived from the Gaelic name Caislean
Cnucha, and there are many references in ancient manuscripts
to the legendary figure Cnucha.
"…Cnucha of the beautiful head, She dwelt in the painted fortress…
The woman was buried sorrowful it was, In the right centre
of the hill; So that Cnucha from that time forth, Is its name
till the day of judgement."
(from the Book of Lecan)
