AHL6 Hurlers Secure Promotion In Impressive Style

Castleknock 5-21 Crumlin 0-5

A superb 4-4 from full-forward Brian Hughes helped Castleknock to a convincing 31-point victory over Crumlin in Somerton this morning (August 11th), giving the ‘Parish’ the win needed to lift the AHL6 title with a game in hand.

Castleknock captain, Rob Wylie, lifted the AHL6 Cup to resounding applause (the first cup to visit the new dressing-rooms) a merited reward for this team’s Summer of whole-hearted effort and hurling skills.

The AHL6 title was won over the course of ten games and this was probably the easiest win of all with Castleknock finishing the first quarter leading by 1-6 to no score.

Brian Hughes was responsible for 1-2 of that total, the goal set-up for him by a clever Mick McCloskey pass. Ronan McCann, Mick McCloskey himself, Andy Lonergan and Cian Boyle provided the points.

The second quarter produced another 1-6 for Castleknock. This time Cian Boyle was the goal scorer helped by Andy Lonergan. Mick McCloskey added his second point followed by further points for Brian Hughes, Andy Lonergan, Cian Boyle (2) and Luke Gubbins to give the home side a 2-12 0-3 interval lead.

Another 3-12 followed in the second-half as the scoring procession continued. Some great combination hurling lead to three excellent Brian Hughes goals although one will go down as a stunning solo effort.

Mick McCloskey brought his total to 0-4 as did Andy Lonergan. Aaron Cunningham grabbed one, so too did Joe Murray and Luke Gubbins as Castleknock coasted to victory.
