Amazing 13-Point Comeback By Ladies ‘B’ Footballers

Castleknock 5-10 Ballyboden St. Enda’s 4-13

Thirteen points down, five minutes into the second-half, Castleknock produced an amazing comeback, scoring 3-7 in the last twenty-five minutes to draw this Adult League Div.5 match against Ballyboden and in the process maintain their unbeaten 7 game League record.

It was a remarkable turn-around considering that three Ballyboden goals between the 20th and 28th minutes of the first-half seemed to have won the game for the visitors although anyone who thought that hadn’t reckoned on Castleknock’s incredible fighting spirit.

Lauren Manning (0-2), Dearbhla Lennon (1-0) and Bronagh Quinn (1-0) were Castleknock’s first-half scorers, at the end of which Castleknock trailed to an excellent Ballyboden display 2-2 4-8.

Twice in the second-half the visitors pushed on into a 13-point lead before the Castleknock comeback began. Slowly but surely the home team, through points from Bronagh Quinn, Dearbhla Lennon and sub Emma Glynn, chipped away at the Ballyboden lead.

The score was 2-8 4-10 when with 8 minutes to go Lauren Manning picked up a pass in midfield. She soloed through the entire Ballyboden defence before firing an unstoppable shot past their seemingly unbeatable goalkeeper for one of the goals of the season!

An Orla Kindlon point helped Castleknock move a little closer again but two Ballyboden points in quick succession seemed to have stemmed the tide.

Then as the game moved into time-added-on Castleknock struck twice again. First Bronagh Quinn got through for a well-worked goal and then with the ball running loose in the Ballyboden goalmouth up stepped Lauren Manning to again lash the ball to the net and give Castleknock a remarkable one point lead.

However, one last chance for Ballyboden resulted in a levelling point bringing the game to a breath-taking end with what was probably a fair result. Another unforgettable game.
