Ask not what your Club can do for you, but what you can do for your Club!

(17 Feb 2020)

A Club Information Evening is being held on Tuesday 25th February 2020 at 8 p.m. in the Clubhouse. We hope that members and their extended families will attend.

While we are delighted to say that the Club has grown significantly over the last few years and we have been very lucky in getting volunteers to coach our teams, we cannot continue to operate with the small numbers of volunteers we have in other areas.

Over the years, we have had many events and activities, all providing various levels of funding for the club. These have generally been managed and delivered by a small team of members.

We want to freshen things up, we need new people and new ideas. We have roles for everyone, not just for those that will ask for money, we need organisers, bookkeepers etc.

We are proposing that small groups of people would look after a particular job (some are once a year, some are ongoing). We need more people which will mean less work for everyone.

Here are a few of the fundraising events to whet the appetite:

  • Bag Packing in Tesco (once a year)
  • All Ireland Raffle Tickets (short term over mid/late August)
  • Race Night (once a year)
  • Fashion Show (biennially – every two years)
  • Main Event e.g. Lipsync / Strictly (once a year)
  • Cash for Clobber (ongoing)
  • Pub Quiz (once a year)

Club members who previously did these jobs are available to help groups get started so don’t be afraid: you are not on your own.

While the membership covers a lot of our costs it falls short by more than €80,000 per year. Here are a few statistics on our annual running costs:

  • Affiliation/Insurance and Related Fees: €77K
  • Grounds Maintenance: €40K
  • Clubhouse (new cost): €20K
  • Rental of training facilities: €17K
  • Utilities €23K

Please come along and bring a GAA friend to the meeting on Tuesday 25th February at 8pm.
