Calculators Needed For Castleknock Féile Teams To Reach S-F’s (and Final)

Remarkably similar outcomes for Castleknock’s Div.2 and Div.10 Ladies Football Féile teams as both, in thrilling finishes, qualified for their Divisional Semi-Finals courtesy of aggregate scores conceded with the Div.10 team going on to reach tomorrow’s Final (Sunday May 19th).

Div.2B in Somerton

An extraordinary finish to the Div.2B Ladies Football Féile at Somerton as Qualification for the knock-out stages came down to aggregate scores conceded and it was only after some nail-biting calculations by Group Co-ordinator Fergal Quinn that the Castleknock girls, amid much excitement, were eventually declared runners-up in the Group, ensuring a Div.2 Semi-Final place.

It is unlikely that there was ever a more tense finish to a Féile Group as that fought out between Castleknock, Fingallians and Cuala. Going into the last round of games Cuala after two wins looked favourites to win the group but Castleknock produced a performance full of heart and skill to shock the favourites by 3-5 3-1 and qualify for the Semi-Final.

In the end Fingallians, Castleknock and Cuala all finished on 4 points which meant that ‘aggregate lowest score against’ decided the issue. Fingallians conceded a total of 20 points, Castleknock a total of 26 points and unlucky Cuala conceded 31. So Fingallians were declared Group Winners and Castleknock Runners-up. It couldn’t really have been any closer.

Round 1. Castleknock 0-7 Fingallians 2-2

Round 2. Castleknock 1-6 St. Sylvester’s 2-2

Round 3. Castleknock 3-5 Cuala 3-1

Unfortunately the fairy-tale ended in Lucan at the Semi-Final stage when in spite of Castleknock leading by 1-2 0-1 at the break they were overhauled in the second-half by Na Fianna who won it on a final score of 2-2 to 1-3.

Prior to the game In a moment of Féile magic the 2005 Girls formed the Letter K and a heart to show solidarity with injured colleague Katie Sheerin. It’s what Féile is all about. Wishing you a quick recovery Katie

Div.10A in Drumnigh

It was just as exciting in the Trinity Gaels grounds over in Drumnigh when ‘aggregate scores conceded’ saw Castleknock top the group and reach the Div.10 Semi-Final.

Again as in Div.2 the top three teams were locked on 4 points apiece but after a countback Castleknock who conceded just 13 points were declared Group Winners with St. Margaret’s Runners-Up with 24 points conceded and the home team Trinity Gaels on 28 points losing out.

Round 1. Castleknock 3-3 Trinity Gaels 1-0

Round 2. Castleknock 2-5 Ballinteer 0-0

Round Castleknock 0-5 St. Margaret’s 3-1

As Group Winner’s Castleknock stayed in Drumnigh for their Semi-Final where they recorded a terrific 2-7 1-3 victory over Skerries and so on to Sunday’s Div.10 Final to meet St. Margaret’s again after the North County side beat Shankill 1-3 1-0 in the other Semi-Final.

The Final is fixed for O’Toole Park in Crumlin tomorrow Sunday (May 19th) Throw-in 1.30pm. Be there.
