Camogie ‘B’ Team Enjoy Championship Goal-fest

Castleknock 6-10 Cuala 2-2

After a slow start Castleknock went on to completely dominate this Junior 3 Championship meeting with Cuala at Somerton (Sept.10) having all of 20 points to spare at the final whistle.

Remarkably the sides were level at only one point apiece after an even first 15 minutes, Emma McMenamin getting the home point before an Eimear Stynes goal on 18 minutes turned the game in Castleknock’s favour.

That was the first of two Eimear Stynes’ goals, the second a cleverly hand-passed effort three minutes later to put Castleknock into a five-point lead 2-1 0-2.

The on-fire Eimear Stynes added a point and the hard-working Emma Strappe then went forward from midfield to drive over another point before substitute Lucy Quinn ended the first-half with a superbly taken goal to leave Castleknock 10 points clear at the break, 3-3 0-2.

The second-half was something of a procession for Castleknock. Substitute Aisling O’Neill, making her adult debut, goaled with her first touch. Lucy Quinn was equally effective as she scored 1-2 in five minutes to add to her first-half goal.

Emma Strappe, Kerrie Redmond, and Dearbhla Lennon added further points and Aisling O’Neill followed up with her second goal.

Fitting too that the final point was scored by Eimear Stynes who did so much to put Castleknock on top earlier in the game.

Two goals each then for Eimear Stynes, Lucy Quinn and Aisling O’Neill but of course it was the dominance of Castleknock in defence (with Sophie Browne playing as sweeper) and midfield that afforded the home forwards the possession necessary to shine in the scoring stakes.
