Commanding Camogie Display In Intermediate Championship

Castleknock 2-19 Naomh Fionnbarra 1-6

It took a while but once Castleknock got into their stride there was no doubting who was going to win this Intermediate Championship Round 1 match against Naomh Fionnbarra in Somerton on Thursday evening (August 29).

The sides were level three times in the opening 11 minutes but that was as good as it got for the visitors who were outscored by 1-6 0-1 between then and the half-time whistle when Castleknock led by 1-9 0-4.

Caitlin Coffey who made a number of terrific catches in midfield opened the scoring with the first of her two points followed by further points from Bronagh Quinn (2), Ciara Burgess and Rebecca Cassidy (2) to put daylight between the teams for the first time.

A Ciara Burgess purple patch before the break produced a quick-fire goal and two points in two minutes as Castleknock upped the tempo and the intensity and began to dominate all over the field.

The second-half followed a similar pattern with a well-struck Aoife Whelan goal after eight minutes ending the game as a contest. The half-back line of Meadbh Stynes, Molly O’Neill and Claire Nulty let very little pass them and whatever did was quickly cleaned up by the dominant full-back trio.

Aisling Andrews proved the second-half scoring ace with five points from play and free-taker in chief Bronagh Quinn wasn’t far behind with four scores to her name. Sub Cara Feeney fired over the other Castleknock second-half point.

It was a pleasing performance all over the field against useful opposition which included Dublin Senior player Siobhan Kehoe and the 16-point margin marks the perfect start to Castleknock’s 2019 Intermediate Championship campaign.
