Comprehensive AHL3 Win Keeps Castleknock In Top Two

Castleknock 3-17 St. Mark’s 1-13

Scoring an impressive 3-16 of their 3-17 total from play Castleknock eventually coasted to a 10-points victory in this AHL3 meeting with St. Mark’s in Somerton on Sunday morning (Aug.11th).

The game was a real contest for the first 20 minutes only at which stage Castleknock led by just a point 0-6 0-5, the home scores having come from Conal Dillon, Luke Whelan (2), Conal Purcell and Niall O;Callaghan (2).

On 22 minutes however a well worked Castleknock move resulted in a Liam Quinn goal and that score proved pivotal. A Luke McCann point was followed by another two from midfielder Conal Purcell to open up a seven-point interval lead 1-9 0-5.

By the time Luke McCann drilled the ball to the St. Mark’s net 12 minutes into the second-half the margin was 14 points and while Castleknock lost some focus late in the game to allow the Tallaght outfit score 1-4, there was never any real doubt about the outcome.

Luke Whelan added a third goal 12 minutes from time and he also notched Castleknock’s only point from a dead ball on a morning of outstanding accuracy from play.

Castleknock: Jack Banks; Jack King; Ed Forrest; Max Byrne; Conor Prunty; Cian O’Dúlaing; Ciaran Murphy; Conal Purcell (0-4); James Tolan; Luke McCann (1-2); Luke Whelan (1-4); Liam Quinn (1-0); Shane Coffey; Niall O’Callaghan (0-4); Conal Dillon (0-3).
