Intermediate Camogie Team Win Championship Group (And Home Semi-Final)

Castleknock 6-14 St. Peregrines  1-4

A second Intermediate Camogie Championship win in just over 48 hours, this time over St. Peregrines in Somerton on Tuesday evening (Sept.24) means Castleknock win Group 1 and claim a home Semi-Final as a result.

Following Sunday’s hard-fought win over St. Brigid’s, Castleknock understandably rested a few players, in consequence of which Ellen Baker and Emma Strappe were given a first taste of Championship action at this level.

It was the perfect night to introduce new blood as almost straight from the throw-in Castleknock put together a great move. Ellen Baker began it, Cara Feeney continued it as did Emma Strappe and Amy Mahony was on hand to crash the ball to the visitor’s net for a terrific opening goal.

More of the same followed as Castleknock went on to total 5-10 by the interval. The other first-half goals came from the excellent Aisling Andrews and Ciara Murray who scored two apiece. Midfielder Cara Feeney fired over three great points as did Bronagh Quinn, the last of which could easily have been a goal.

Aisling Andrews added a point to her goals total and the elusive Amy Mahony struck a fine score on the rum. Aoife Whelan who constantly set up scores for others scored a point of her own and fleet-footed debutant Emma Strappe completed the first-half points total.

A similar pattern developed in the second-half, the highlight of which was a third goal for the virtually unmarkable Ciara Murray. The full-forward also added a point as did Amy Mahony, Cara Feeney and substitute Ciara Burgess.

Group winners Castleknock now progress to a semi-final meeting on October 6th with the as yet undecided runners-up in Group 2.
