Junior 2 Camogie - Winning Streak Continues

(15 May 2019)

Junior 2 League - Castleknock 6-13 St. Anne’s 1-1

A perfect team performance saw Castleknock continue their Junior 2 League ‘winning streak’ with a comfortable 27-point win over St. Anne’s in Somerton (May 14th).

This was a very impressive performance from a very young Castleknock side who displayed an excellent touch throughout, catching, striking, hooking, blocking and scoring in some style, on their way to a fifth successive league win.

A Sophie Browne point and two Dearbhla Lennon goals in the first 10 minutes, the second created by an immaculate pass from Emma Strappe, set Castleknock on the road to victory. At the break courtesy of further scores from Emma Strappe, Emma McMenamin and Dearbhla Lennon (2) the home team pushed on into a commanding half-time lead, 2-5 0-0.

Ebha Mooney was rock-solid in goals and with Ellen Baker sweeping up everything in the half-back line St. Anne’s in spite of having quite a few classy players of their own had no answer to Castleknock’s all-round quality.

Substitute Lucy Quinn fired over the first point of the second-half quickly followed by a goal from Siobhan Roche after some hard work by Aoife Bergin and another from distance from Lucy Quinn. Dearbhla Lennon, flawless from play and frees brought her total to 2-5 before she set-up a fifth Castleknock goal for Megan Jordan.

A brief St. Anne’s response yielded 1-1 before normal service was resumed. Emma McMenamin tapped over. Eimear Stynes hit a terrific angled point. The inexhaustible Emma Strappe added 1-1 and Ellen Baker still had time to come forward to claim the game’s final point.

Every single Castleknock player deserves credit for what was an excellent team display.
