Under 10 Comogie - Mini semi-final league defeat for Castleknock

St. Maurs 5 – 0 Castleknock 0 - 0
Coming into the Semi-final having won two games and lost one Castleknock were confident they could match the opposition. However this was not to be. St. Maurs were stronger and physically imposing and on average, a year and a half older than the Castleknock girls.
First Half.
The onslaught started from the throw in. Inside three minute a shot trickled over the line. St. Maurs had good first time hurling and were closing down quickly. A second goal was followed by a period of profligacy that gave the keeper practice with her puck outs and the supporters and mentors palpations.
St. Maurs best goal was a powerful strike into the side that almost excoriated the sloitar. Castleknock started to close down quicker but could not get out of their own half. St. Maurs scored two more goals to leave the half time score at 5 – 0 to 0 - 0.
Second Half.
The second half started with some stout defending. The Castleknock midfield and backs were imperious and fearless. They fought for everything and worked for each other. The game opened up and was played in two thirds of the pitch. Castleknock closed down St. Maurs and were no longer intimidated. Obdurate defending and greater self-belief saw a second half where Castleknock played to their potential and the St. Maurs back line had to clear the ball.
St. Maurs were stronger with a better first time touch of both sides which left the Castleknock mentors with “A lot done ….More to do”
Castleknock second half performance was a credit to them and will provide inspiration for the future.
It finished St. Maurs 5-0 Castleknock 0-0.
