Castleknock, as Dublin’s representatives in the Leinster Intermediate Camogie Championship, matched their more experienced Kildare opponents Johnstownbridge for 40 minutes when the sides were level at 1-6 0-9, Rebecca Cassidy the Castleknock goal-scorer. However, in the final quarter Johnstownbridge aided by the wind pulled away to win by 0-18 1-7.

Huge win for the U-16 Girls beating great rivals Lucan in the Div.1 Camogie Championship Final by 1-9 0-10 in Somerton, the club’s first win at this level since 2015. An Aisling O’Neill goal proved decisive and Eva Coughlan won the Player of the Match Award.

Congrats too to the U-14 Girls on winning the Div.3 Camogie Final with a 5-7 1-4 win over their great Fingallians. Well done everyone. All the hard work was worth it.

Oct.20 – All three Minor Football teams are still in the Championship after a huge day of Quarter-Final action. The ‘A’ team drew with Lucan Sarsfields, 2-14 1-17 AET, in an epic struggle which now goes to a replay. The ‘C’ team battled their way to a fine win over St. Mark’s, winning by 3-11 2-8, having trailed by two points at half-time. Cathal Flynn scored an amazing opening point followed by goals from Sean Andrews, P.J. Campbell and Stephen Callinan. Wishing a speedy recovery to Rian Buckley, Matthew Lynam and Mark Connellan who picked up injuries but will hopefully be back for the Semi-Final. The ‘E’ team beat St. Vincent’s with late goals from Dylan O’Keeffe, Conor Cryan and Tommy Igoe while Oisin O’Neill made a stunning penalty save to give Castleknock a Semi-Final place.

The Camogie ‘B’ team has a convincing 5-10 0-1 win over Commercials in the Junior 3 Championship Semi-Final. Dearbhla Lennon scored 3-4.

Congrats to former Senior Football Captain Dessie Carlos on winning the Roscommon JFC with his native club Ballinameen. Great performance by neighbours St. Brigid’s in the Senior ‘A’ Hurling Final, falling short by only four points 1-14 1-18 against giants of the game, Cuala.

Congrats to Castleknock Camogs on winning the Intermediate Championship Final beating Erin’s Isle 4-12 1-2. Cara Feeney scores 2-0 and Louise Mahony 1-1. This historic victory sees Castleknock join Senior ranks for the first time and means the team now go forward to represent Dublin Camogie in the Leinster Intermediate Championship against Kildare Champions Johnstownbridge next Saturday Oct.19.

A real battling victory for Castleknock’s Footballers in beating Templeogue/Synge Street 4-8 0-11 in the Junior 1 Football Championship Quarter-Final in difficult conditions in Dolphin Park. Lennon Bracken top-scores with 1-5.

Massive disappointment for our Minor ‘A’ Hurlers losing the Championship Semi-Final to Ballyboden 2-13 4-10. The defeat is all the more difficult to take because eight minutes into the second-half Castleknock led by nine points 2-10 1-4.

The other two Minor Hurling Championship matches, the ‘C’ Quarter-Final and the ‘D’ Final were postponed due to the pitches being unplayable.

Congrats to the U-14 Ladies Football teams on winning their two Championship Semi-Finals.

Upcoming – Castleknock’s JHC ‘C’ Final against St. Jude’s has been refixed for O’Toole Park at 2pm next Saturday, Oct.19. Castleknock Club Notes Sept.30 – Oct.6

Oct.2 – A superb team performance sees Castleknock Ladies Footballers win the Intermediate Shield Final, 5-10 4-6, against arch-rivals Clann Mhuire in the Naul. At half-time the sides are level at 3-4 each but thanks to a great defensive display and goals from Aisling O’Donnell, Caitlin Coffey and Eimear Griffin who scored 3-4 in total it was Castleknock’s Captain Jenny Hickey who raised the trophy at the end.

Oct.3 – No Lotto Jackpot Winner – Next Jackpot €8,000. Ten Match 3 Winners receive €30 each – William Maley, Kevin Keegan, Tony Taaffe, Brian Donnelly, Edward Cullen, Anna Farrell, Suzan O’Keeffe, Angela Kehoe, Cindy, Amber and Kai. Lucky Dip €30 Winner – Jim O’Sullivan.

Oct.5 –The U-16 Hurling ‘B’ Championship side sees off St. Maur’s by 1-13 2-5 but in the U-16 Hurling ‘D’ Championship Castleknock lose to Fingallians 1-6 4-9. Congrats to the U-14 girls’ footballers on qualifying for the Div.3 Finals.

In the U-13 football League, an excellent Castleknock win over Erin’s Isle in Div.1 by 2-14 3-6. The Div.5 team lose to Lucan and the Div.8 team lose a memorable game to St. Sylvester’s by 7-6 7-10.

Oct.6 – Huge disappointment as the Junior ‘C’ Hurling Championship Final is called off due to O’Toole Park being unplayable. It takes a late late extra-time goal from Louise Mahony to give Castleknock’s ‘A’ Camogie team victory over St. Vincent’s by 1-14 1-12 in the Intermediate Championship Semi-Final. It looked as if points from Caitlin Coffey and Aoife Whelan had won it in normal time but St. Vincent’s fought back to take a titanic struggle to extra-time. Roll on the Final.

Another morning to remember for our Minor Footballers, all three teams winning their Championship groups to ensure home Quarter-Finals. The Minor ‘A’ team, helped by 1-6 from Cian Boyle, fights back from a nine-point half-time deficit to draw with Thomas Davis 3-11 4-8 to remain unbeaten and win the group. The Minor ‘B’ team’s impressive 6-16 2-5 win over Round Towers, Lusk maintains their 100% record and means they too get a home Quarter-Final. The scoring stars are Sean Andrews with 3-5, Adam Pettit 1-3, Mark Connellan 1-1, Rory Deehan 1-0 and Cathal Flynn 0-2 while Matthew Lynam’s all-round contribution was immense.

Congrats to Club Sports Therapist Tommy Griffin on completing the Barcelona Ironman and to Sinead Comerford on being selected to represent Ireland in the AFL European 18-a-side Championships in London.

Upcoming – More Finals to look forward to this weekend. The Intermediate Camogie Final is scheduled for next Sunday, Oct.13 (subject to confirmation) and Castleknock will face Naomh Fionnbarra in the Minor ‘D’ Hurling Championship Final on Sunday morning 11am, venue TBC. Sept.29 – No one thought it possible but a spectacular win for the Junior 1 Championship footballers over Ballymun 4-22 0-9 sends Castleknock through to the Quarter-Finals on points difference. Sept. 22 – A brilliant victory in the Junior ‘C’ Hurling Championship Semi-Final over Naomh Olaf 1-16 3-7, Castleknock going through to the Final to play St. Jude’s. Disappointment however in the Junior ‘F’ Hurling Semi-Final with Castleknock losing by 1-13 0-19 to Raheny.

Great Camogie double, as in the Intermediate Championship the ‘A’ team following a sluggish first half beat St’ Brigid’s 5-10 1-4 to maintain their 100% record and the ‘B’ team do likewise in the Junior 3 Championship beating Faughs/Celtic by 5-6 2-4.

The Ladies Footballers ‘A’ team also overcame St. Maurs in the Intermediate Shield Semi-Final 2-15 1-9 to go through to the Final in style.

A good morning too for the Minor Hurlers. The ‘A’ Championship team makes it two wins from two beating Lucan by 3-12 0-10 while the ‘C’ Championship team beat Kevins by 6-15 3-4. May 14 – Senior 2 Camogie lose a tight match, 2-10 3-9, against Naomh Mearnog but the Junior 2 side continue their winning ways with a 6-13 1-1 win over St. Anne’s to become Champions Elect. In the Junior ‘C’ Hurling Championship Castleknock experience a first defeat going down 0-17 1-17 to new table-toppers St. Joseph’s/OCB.

May 15 – In a marvellous contest Castleknock beat Naomh Olaf, 1-28-1-22, in the Senior ‘B’ Hurling Championship. A slow start left Castleknock Ladies IFC team with too much to do to catch Cuala, 2-5 3-15. Congrats to Alex Watson, Senan Forker, Luke Swan (0-3) and Ben Harding on Dublin’s LMFC win 2-13 0-13 over Offaly. Congrats too to Matthew Lynam who was named Best and Fairest player in Dublin Clarke’s Celtic Hurling Challenge (U-17) victory over Laois.

May 16 – Huge Junior ‘F’ Hurling Championship win for Castleknock over Civil Service.

May 17 – Well done to Hannah Bourke on winning the Dublin Puc Fada in Howth.

May 18 – Massive Ladies Football Féile day with both the Div.2 and the Div.10 teams qualifying for the Semi-Finals. No luck for the Div.2 team but the Div.10 side go through to the Final. Good AHL3 win for the Senior Hurlers beating Naomh Mearnog 2-14 0-16.

Castleknock Club Notes – May 7 – May 12

May 7 – A great Camogie double to start the week, with a Senior 2 League win over Cuala by 2-13 0-8 and the Junior 2 League team beating St.Brigid’s to make it 7 wins out of 7 in Cup and League.

May 8 – A thrilling Ladies Football Intermediate Championship debut for Castleknock ends in a 3-9 3-9 draw with Clann Mhuire – Ciara Murray grabs all 3 Castleknock goals. In the Ladies Junior ‘C’ Championship Ballyboden edge a well fought game, 5-8 2-13 while Castleknock’s Senior Footballers lose a competitive game for the first time in 2019 going down by 0-9 0-14 to St. Sylvester’s in Malahide. The AFL Div.4 side lose by a point 0-11 1-9 to Cuala.

May 9 – The AFL Div.9 Footballers maintain their unbeaten league run with a 1-12 0-12 win over Sylvester’s in Broomfield. The U-13 Div.2 hurlers defeat Naomh Barrog but the U-13 Div.5 team lose to Lucan. No Jackpot Lotto winner – next week’s Jackpot €3,800 – one Match 3 Winner €300 – Barbara Devlin.

May 11 – Luke Swan and Conor Murray share in Dublin’s Leinster MHC draw with Wexford to qualify for the Leinster Semi-Final. Congrats also to Senior Footballer Seamus O’Carroll who helps end Limerick’s 7-year Munster SFC drought with a shock win over Tipperary.

Saturday was also a big day in Portlaoise with Eimear, Saoirse and Aoife representing Castleknock in the U-14 Camagie Blitz and hurlers Callum Sheridan, Sean Doyle and Dylan Clarke being on the Dublin U-14 team that beat Galway. A great occasion for everyone concerned.

Work was begun on the Clubhouse Patio with some serious manhours put in by Mick Lynch, Alan Rushe, Patrick McKeown and Emmet McGarvey. Thanks to everyone concerned.

May 12 – The Senior Footballers got back on track in the AFL Div.2 with a workmanlike 3-7 0-5 win over Scoil Úi Chonaill. The AFL Div.4 team have 11 points to spare over Na Fianna (5-11 2-9) to keep their League challenge very much alive. The AFL Div.9 team lost to Rosmini Gaels (0-8 1-16) but the AFL Div.11S side beat St. James’s Gaels (1-16 0-5). Alfie Sawyer made a cameo appearance and a clash of jerseys forced Castleknock as the home team to wear their jerseys inside out. Not a great fashion statement if the truth be told.

Mixed news in the MHL - Div.1 Castleknock 4-22 Thomas Davis 4-15. Div.3 Castleknock lost to O’Toole’s. Div.4N Castleknock lost to St. Peregrine’s.

Castleknock Club Notes – April 30 – May 6

April 30 – Féile week begins with a 2-6 3-8 defeat for the Castleknock Camogie Senior 2 League team against a pacey Kilmacud side while at the same time the Junior 2 League team has a point to spare 1-9 2-5 over St. Finian’s. An exciting 4-15 6-7 win the same evening for the U-14 Girls footballers against Cuala.

May 1 – The Ladies Footballers Div.2 team lose a high-scoring thriller to O’Dwyer’s out in Balbriggan, 6-7 5-13. The Ladies Div.5 team beat St. Finian’s/St. Margaret’s 6-13 0-4 to bring their League tally to 20-49 in 4 games. Two goals apiece for Aoife Delaney and Rachel Slater.

May 4 – A disappointing Féile for both Boys teams. The Div.1 Boys fail to get out of a strong group out in Silverpark (well done Kilmacud who won Div.1 out) and it is just as hard in Somerton for the Div.6 Boys (congrats to St. Maur’s who won Div.6). Many thanks to all our players, parents and mentors. Congrats to Conor Murray and Luke Swan on Dublin’s Leinster MHC win over Offaly (1-23 1-10). Luke goals for the third Dublin game in a row. A Senior ‘B’ SHC defeat (0-13 3-19) out in Shankill as Cuala produce some flawless hurling.

May 5 – Two Championship wins out of two as the Junior ‘C’ Hurlers get the better of St. Sylvester’s in Somerton (1-15 1-3). Brian Carter’s ‘wonder’ goal the highlight. Victory for the MFL1 team against Skerries (1-14 2-10) as last gasp points from Cian Boyle and Ronan McCann help sneak the win. In the MFL3 a remarkable game sees Castleknock go from 5 goals down to almost grab a win but Clanna Gael Fontenoy just hold on to win it 6-9 6-6. MFL5N 0-10 Whitehall 2-11.

May 6 - Congrats  to Hannah Bourke on qualifying for the Dublin Camogie Poc Fada Juvenile Final on May 17.

Castleknock Club Notes April 23-28

April 23 – Congrats to the club’s Dublin Minor Footballers Alex Watson, Senan Forker, Luke Swan and Ben Harding on their Leinster Championship win over Meath (4-10 2-10), Luke grabbing 1-1 late on to seal the win.

April 24 – A terrific battling win over St. Vincent’s (3-8 0-14) in Round 2 of the SFC, Shane Boland, Gerard McDermottroe and Kevin Stephenson the goal-scorers on a never to be forgotten night in Malahide ensuring a fourth successive SFC Quarter-Final slot as a result. Not such a good evening for our Minor Footballers however, the Div.1 team losing 1-15 3-15 to St. Sylverster’s, the Div.3 side going down by 1-8 4-12 to neighbours St. Brigid’s and the Div.5N team losing 2-5 3-8 to St. Paul’s. Better news for the Ladies 1 Footballers as they register a hard fought 3-11 3-09 win over Clann Mhuire in the Adult Div.2 Cup and a huge 7-13 1-04 win over St. Monica’s for our Ladies 2 Footballers in the Adult League Div.5.

April 25 – No Jackpot Winner – Next week’s Jackpot €3,400 – Match 3 Winners receive €75 each – Terry Buckley, Darren Martin, Valery McSherry and Ronan Travers.

April 27th – Disappointment for Conor Murray (0-1) and Luke Swan (1-0), following on his goal for the Minor footballers on Tuesday, as Dublin go down by 2-8 0-15 in the Leinster Minor Hurling Championship v Kilkenny in Nowlan Park. Sadly no joy either for Aisling O’Neill (0-2) or Lucy Quinn who were on the Dublin U-16 Ladies Football team beaten by Meath (2-5 3-9) in the Leinster Final in Ballymore Eustace. Congrats to Cliona Hewson on being part of the Dublin Camogie U-15 Development squad’s trip to Wexford.

April 28th – One to forget for the Junior 1 Footballers as they were outplayed 2-6 1-20 by Ballinteer St. John’s in R.2 of the Championship. Better news from the Blakestown Road as the JFC3 team recorded a hard fought 1-14 1-10 win over St. Peregrine’s to keep their Group hopes alive. The JFC5 team lost their rearranged match against Clanna Gael Fontenoy 1-6 1-15, a notable feature of the game being the return to competitive action of Eoghan O’Callaghan a member of the club’s first Adult Football team back in 1998. MHL Div.1 Castleknock 1-7 St. Vincent’s 4-21 MHL Div.3 Castleknock 2-9 Skerries 4-19.

In spite of beating Na Fianna our Div.5 side lose to Scoil Úi Chonaill, St. Mark’s and Westmanstown Gaels and so fail to make it to the knock-out stages.
